PostgreSQL Database Administrator

Fox Interactive Media (FIM),
a start-up division of News Corporation, is seeking an experienced PostgreSQL DBA for the FIM Audience
Network group.

The FIM Audience Network
group is comprised of FIM’s ad technology, ad operations, and performance sales
groups focused on monetizing social media. The technology group is responsible
to provide top-tier solutions to optimize monetization across FIM’s content
network (including MySpace.com) and those
of other third-party publishers. Projects include leveraging optimization
technologies to provide relevant ads, aggregating data into one of the
largest and fastest growing Data Warehouse system in the world to power BI
tools, and building consumer-facing tools to enable social interaction and ads.

The PostgreSQL DBA will
primarily be responsible for providing 24x7 database support including the
overall database health, maintenance, performance, reliability, and scalability
of the Postgres databases that power our different applications.

KEY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBLITIES INCLUDE:

• Design, implement, and maintain 24x/7 high
  availability Postgres production and development databases.
• Participate in database design for new
  features/functionality.
• Plan and support the implementation of major
  architectural changes.
• Install, tune and monitor Postgres database
  instances.
• Define and implement maintenance procedures
  including Disaster Recovery, HA, DB maintenance, Backup solution, etc.
• Provide direction in capacity planning,
  performance improvements, and storage management in partnership with System
  Operations and Development teams.
• Ongoing performance analysis, monitoring,
  troubleshooting, and resolution of issues.
• Interface with System operations and vendors to
  resolve problems with application/database systems.
• On-call support for production systems.
• Maintain and contribute to and update systems
  documentation as required.
• Implement, refine, and maintain database
  replication and failover.
• Develop, refine, and monitor recurring cron jobs
  and shell/sql scripts.
• Query analysis and optimization.
• Data import and data migration.

EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE:

• 5+ years Database Administration (DBA)
  experience.
• Minimum 2 years of direct PostgreSQL experience
  (including replication, partitioning, high availability) and familiarity
  with PG utilities and tools like – Slony, PGPool, PGAdmin, etc.
• Experience in high transaction rate OLTP
  environment and supporting VLDBs (multi Terabytes).
• Knowledge of Linux & Solaris 10 operating
  systems and scripting language.
• Nice to have MySQL or any other traditional
  database experience.
• Strong Database Troubleshooting and Problem
  Resolution skills.
• Capable of translating complex business needs
  into technical solutions.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building
  skills conducive to team development.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and
  verbal.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
