Data Warehouse DBA

Fox Interactive Media (FIM),
a start-up division of News Corporation, is seeking an experienced Data Warehouse DBA for the FIM Audience
Network group.

The FIM Audience Network
group is comprised of FIM’s ad technology, ad operations, and performance sales
groups focused on monetizing social media. The technology group is responsible
to provide top-tier solutions to optimize monetization across FIM’s content
network (including MySpace.com) and those
of other third-party publishers. Projects include leveraging optimization
technologies to provide relevant ads, aggregating data into one of the
largest and fastest growing Data Warehouse system in the world to power BI
tools, and building consumer-facing tools to enable social interaction and ads.

As an Enterprise Data
Warehouse DBA you will be responsible for the overall health, maintenance, and
performance of the multi-terabyte EDW system
including 24x7 support.

KEY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBLITIES INCLUDE:

• Administer, monitor, maintain, and support data
  warehouse systems and databases.
• Conduct regular performance testing and tuning.
• Provide development and testing support.
• Identify the problems, which may include query
  tuning, server tuning, etc.
• Work with DB appliance vendor(s), Sys Ops, and
  others to resolve problems, outages, or slowdowns.
• Runtime optimization, capacity management and
  planning, security, configuration, scheduling, and execution of maintenance
  utilities.
• Drive planning and execution of
  hardware/software upgrades and expansion.
• Shell scripting, system tuning, and
  troubleshooting on UNIX.
• Providing support to ETL and BI
  team.
• Participates in developing data warehouse
  standards, policies, and procedures.
• Develop, document, and manage data warehouse
  maintenance processes and procedures.
• Identify and leverage opportunities to
  continually improve the quality of systems, processes, data, or metadata.
• Actively promote the understanding of EDW concepts
  and methods.

EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 5 years DBA experience esp. supporting
  production DWH DB.
• 8+ years IT industry experience.
• Must have experience in supporting OLAP / BI-DW
  workloads in a multi-Terabyte environment.
• Knowledge of DW Design (MPP architecture) and
  its impact on performance.
• Experience with large scale, massively parallel,
  shared nothing database architectures (Teradata / Netezza / Greenplum /
  Vertica, etc.). Nice to have PostgreSQL background.
• Understands data warehouse concepts, practices,
  methodologies, and architectural approaches.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve
  problems quickly; document issues from production problems, propose
  solutions and implement them.
• Knowledge of Linux & Solaris 10 operating
  systems and scripting language.
• On-call support for production systems.
• Ability to work effectively in a team
  environment and able to think strategically as well as execute effectively
  with a high level of attention to detail.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in
  Computer Science.
